Double Decked Bridge

The modern civilization and environment need not support the traditional bridge building style. Hence the Double-decked Bridges comes into play. They were specifically given the name because of the simple reason that it consists of two layers. It was greatly helpful to support traffic movement in both the layers. Usually a matrix arrangement was followed in building the steel decks. This was provided to support the movement of wind currents without disturbing the structure. San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is a suitable example for this type of bridge situated in California (United States). It was considered to have one of the longest spans in the world. It was mainly built to have direct route between San Francisco and Oakland, saving many miles for the commuters. Daily this bridge carries around 3 million vehicles on the two decks. It was opened for public use on 12th of November, 1936. It used steel and concrete mix to construct this bridge. Even after strong cyclones and oceanic activities, this bridge stands still. In the history of this bridge, it was closed for public use only once when officials feared the cyclone of 250 kmph could collapse the bridge.
