Coliseum of Rome – Segment 2

The coliseum is a famous tourist spot with millions of spectators visiting it every year. This is indeed the symbol of Imperial Rome. Although it was a great architecture of all time, the damaged building we see today is what that is left from devastating earthquakes and stone robbers from foreign countries. Some of it was built with pillars made of bricks. The Emperor painted the entrances of the coliseum with advertisements. Lengthy mats were used to provide roofing for the theater. The most astonishing idea in this mega structure is that it had an underground water tank. This tank draws water from the river and fills the stadium to conduct water battles. The architects used special techniques to drain the water in and out of the stadium efficiently. This remains a mystery even today. The Emperors, who ruled consecutively, added some extra touch to the marvel. Though it seems to be ruined on the outside, there is a huge amount of income gained from it through tourism. In the middle of its construction, the Emperor came to know that it is effective to use bricks instead of stones and these brick structures were good to create sculptures easily.
